Carl Anderson’s sculptural work delves into playful yet introspective reflections on his personal experiences, using a visual language that explores masculinity, duty, and power. His recent ceramic sculptures draw inspiration from objects like medieval armour, animal traps, and barbed wire – symbols that evoke both menace and nobility. Through these forms, Anderson examines how historical symbols of protection and control continue to resonate with contemporary notions of authority.

Anderson’s work captures the inherent tension between strength and vulnerability, investigating the dualities within his objects – how they can embody both power and fragility. Through this binary, he questions the complex, often contradictory nature of authority, masculinity, and belief.
